OSSA MONOCASCO CONCEPT BIKE

This concept electric bike looks like an updated version of the original OSSA Monocasco bike that Santiago Herrero rode in the 1970s. However, this bike is an electric version, so you can use it pretty much anywhere without worrying about fuel efficiency and harming the environment. While it probably won’t burn the kind of rubber that the original did, it is an appealing compact and energy-efficient package.

The Monocasco Concept Bike was designed by ART-TIC Team and it’s a tribute to the original OSSA Monocasco and Herrero, who died on his OSSA in the 1970 Grand Prix. It’s definitely got that classic cafĂ© racer look.To make it into an comfortable everyday city bike though, the seating position might have to be changed a bit.It will be interesting to see if this electric bike ever gets made. Since it was designed for OSSA, it’s always a possibility.

MOTORCYCLE ENGINES

Motorcycle engines come in two different types two stroke or four stroke. The difference is that two stroke engines have fewer moving parts and produce twice the number of strokes consequently two stroke engines are more powerful for their mass. Two stroke offers stronger acceleration but similar to the top speed of a four stroke engine. They are also easier to start however they have a shorter life span because of their poorly lubricated pistons since lubrication comes from the fuel-oil mix.

Four stroke engines are usually associated with a wider power band making for gentler power delivery, the four strokes have the upper hand on the comfort side because of their reed valves and exhaust power valve systems for smoother gear change.

The general manufacture of the engines are usually quite simple, the raw materials, valves and components first arrive at the manufacturing plant typically on a daily basis and are assembled. As part of the just in time delivery system by which most main companies use. Manufacturing begins in the weld department using computer controlled fabrication of the frame to house the engine, various sections are welded together. This process involves manual, automatic and robotic equipment.

In the plastics department, small plastic pellets are melted and injection moulded under high pressure to form various plastic body trim parts.

Plastic and metal parts and components are painted in booths in the paint department using powder coating to paint the motorcycle evenly.

Painted parts are sent overhead by conveyer belts to the assembly department where they are installed on the frame.

The engine is then mounted in the painted motorcycle a various other components are fitted as the motor cycle is sent down the assembly line. Finally everything else is fitted wheels, brakes, wiring, exhausts, seats lights etc and the bike is complete.

A good example of a widely appreciated motorcycle company is Harley Davidson. The company first began in Milwaukee in 1903 it was founded by Bill Harley and Arthur Walter Davidson when they developed a one cylinder motorcycle. Around the turn of the century the gasoline engine was developed and the one cylinder motor was introduced. By 1905 they had made 11 motorcycles and 1908 it increased to 154 and that’s where the company began in a little wooden barn that was built by Davidson’s father. The small company expanded and another member of the family joined them, in very little time they hired about 20 employees in an especially stone built factory.

KAWASAKI IS PLANNING TO LAUNCH KAWASAKI Z800 IN INDIA

Kawasaki is planning to launch Kawasaki Z800 in India. The bike was recently unveiled at 2012 INTERMOT motor show and is likely to replace Kawasaki Z750. The Z800 will be available in two different variants– Z800 and Z800e, which are same on styling and looks but different in power outputs. The Z800 belts out a maximum power output of 111 bhp with an 83 Nm of peak torque, on the other hand the Z800e comes as a slightly toned down variant with 94 bhp and 76 Nm.

Kawasaki Z800 has been designed to replace Kawasaki European best-seller Z750 and has a bigger engine and improved styling than its predecessor. The Z800 is claimed to offer better performance across the rev range, with sharper focus on lower to mid revs. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission; Smooth-shifting 6-speed transmission has a gear for every situation, from low-speed city traffic to high-speed highway use. A larger rear sprocket (43T>>45T) emphasises the Z800’s already more powerful acceleration.

We are expecting this bike in India, it has an In-line four engine and all that can work in India. How far the pricing is concerned it might cost somewhere around Kawasaki Ninja 650R as it is a naked sport bike and saves a lot on front fairing and styling elements. The bike might come via CKD route same as KawasakiNinja 250R and Kawasaki Ninja 650R and will be assembled at Bajaj’s state of art Chakan plant. We are expecting this bike to arrive in India by mid-2013.

Now,The team has been rechristened Mahi Racing Team India and their Kawasaki ZX-6R bike will sport a new logo and livery for the upcoming season. The Team is now focusing on the 2013 title with these two new world champion riders.

“We plan to open a riding school in India. We have taken a small step and in course of time I want to see an Indian driver on our bikes,” said Dhoni at the launch event here. “Earlier in India, bikes were used for commuting only but in last ten years the engine capacity of bikes in the market have risen from 100cc to 220-250cc, so there is demand for speedy bikes. I was fascinated by the sport and it feels great to be associated with it. But in addition to speed we will also stress on safe driving and following the traffic rules,” he added.

“We were targeting mid-table finishes to form a base for the next season (2013). But the team put up a sterling performance and created history by pulling off a podium finish after just five rounds. Our rider Dan Linfoot finished a remarkable third in Magny Cours, France. Our crew did an outstanding job by setting up the team in such a short time,” said Arun Pandey, Chairman and Managing Director of the Mahi Racing Team. Mahi Racing team will also be participating in India with FIM World Superbike Championship debuting at the Buddh International Circuit in March. Market and Product Background
The Indian motorcycle market has a current annual demand of approximately 13 million units (Yamaha Motor survey, 2011 results) and, with factors like continuous strong consumer spending and population growth, this demand is expected to surpass China’s within 2012 to make India the world’s largest motorcycle market.

Within this market, the scooter category, which accounted for about 11% of total demand at approximately 900,000 units in 2006, has grown rapidly over the last five years to reach about 18% of total demand at roughly 2.4 million units in 2011.

Most recently, the market has seen a cooling down of consumer confidence and more due to factors like the rising price of gasoline and continuing high interest rates on loans. While this has caused a slowing of market growth overall, continued growth in the scooter category is still expected as the growing number of women entering society with a need for personal mobility increases the pool of potential scooter users.

In India’s scooter market, the main model types are larger-bodied models with a sense of weight and volume targeting male users and models intended to be shared in use among the whole family. But, there were growing calls for an easy to use, compact model that fit the needs of a growing number of female users. The new RAY has been designed and engineered with this market background in mind and also with the aim of targeting young women for whom design and fresh new appeal are important.

GIACOMO AGOSTINI

This Italian is the all-time record holder in both Grand Prix wins and World Championships with 122 and 15 respectively. The man known to his legions of fans in the 60’s and 70’s simply as ‘Ago’ split his titles between the 500cc class, (now Moto GP) with 68 race wins and 8 titles and the 350cc class with 54 race wins and 7 titles.

Agostini was the son of a wealthy Italian industrialist. His father originally didn't approve of his son's motorcycle racing career. He did everything he could to persuade his son not to race. Agostini had to steal away to compete, first in hill climb events and then in road racing.

Ago raced as team mate to the legendary Mike Hailwood until Hailwood left at the end of the 1965 season and he stepped up to be the number one rider in the team.

Being the number one seemed to inspire Ago and he duly went on to win the 500cc world title for an amazing 7 years in succession. To even things up he also repeated this staggering feat in the 350cc class as well, as if to show that it was no fluke and he was a worthy champion.

In addition to these world championships, Agostini went on to win a truly amazing 10 Isle of man TT races around probably the hardest and at over 37 miles, the longest on street race track in the world.

He retired from competitive racing at the end of the 1977 season in which he also raced in 750cc endurance races for Yamaha. But to this day can still be seen at selected meetings roaring around the track to the delight and appreciation of his loyal fans both young and old.

ITALIAN VALENTINO ROSSI

Italian Valentino Rossi, nicknamed “The Doctor” and who always carries the yellow number 46 on his bikes, has won an amazing 7 world championships in the premier class of racing, Moto GP which used to be the 500cc class. He did this riding for 2 different manufacturers, Honda from 2000 - 2003 and then Yamaha from 2004 – 2010 and is currently riding a Ducati in an attempt to win a championship on 3 different bikes in the premier class.

He was no slouch in the other classes either winning a championship in both the 250cc and 125cc groups, riding an Aprilia both times. The statistics which speak for themselves – 258 starts, 105 wins, 175 podiums and 86 fastest recorded laps in a race – have ensured that Valentino gets massive support all around the world from a very appreciative and knowledgeable fan base.
At every Moto GP race, no matter where it is in the world, there always seems to be more people cheering on the number 46 than any other rider in the race, such is his appeal.

On 10 August, it was confirmed that Rossi would leave the factory Ducati team at the end of the 2012 season, after two seasons with the team. Later that day, it was also announced that Rossi would rejoin the Yamaha factory team until the end of the 2014 season, partnering Jorge Lorenz.
